I watched "The Lion King 1-1/2" yesterday. Comments follow in a cut:
I actually got this movie by accident, wanting TLK2. JessKat did a terrific page for this one on my AL website, so when I got it, I decided to give it a try. (TLK2 seems to have dropped off Netflix, so I have no idea if I will ever see that one!)
As everyone probably knows, TLK was far from my favorite Disney film - too many things about it disturbed me. This film had some of those disturbing elements. Like, how the HECK can anyone find it amusing to see characters eating living things, even if they are bugs?? Living things that are trying to get away, even, like the poor snail.
But getting past that, I was otherwise charmed by this film. It was done in a fun way, framed by a movie theater which Timon and Pumbaa at first have to themselves, although they are later joined by most of the Disney animated characters. The animation was good, and the music surprisingly good. (I was humming the tunnel song for hours after.) The story was predictable, but that never bothers me, and it had some great scenes. My fave was Timon pulling Simba's paw over himself like a blanket - just so cute!
So, overall, I really enjoyed the hour or so I spent with T&P. This movie is far less weak than the usual Disney sequel.
