'A History of Violence' is an interesting first viewing for Cronenberg. :) It was a step in a different direction for him, but I thought it was very well done. By the way, this movie was made not long after 'The Lord of the Rings'. Did you notice that the composer Howard Shore was still sounding like he was in the Shire?? XD Cronenberg always used Howard Shore before that, but I'm guessing 'LotR' kinda got into Shore's brain and wouldn't leave! *laugh*

Cronenberg is so well known for his deep, brooding, sci-fi horrors that focus on the "flesh". His remake of "The Fly" starring Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis is a wonderful (if disturbing) allegory of cancer and the fears of childbirth.

I have a particular fondness for 'The Brood', which explores the concept of terrifying physical manifestations of rage. Cronenberg actually directed that film while going through a rough divorce with his wife.

But I admit that most of his work DEFINITELY isn't your cup of tea!
