I went to the orthopedic surgeon today, expecting to be told it was just a bad sprain.

Nope. A clean break. Not a hairline, a break. As far as I can tell, it's the fibula (it's the skinny little bone), broken through just above the ankle. So I've been walking around for almost 3 weeks with a broken ankle. (One of my work contacts, with whom I have a good relationship, reacted to that with "Dumb ass.")

I now have a knee-high boot that reminds me strongly of a cross between R2D2 and something Nanook of the North might wear. I'll have it for 8 to 12 weeks. On the good side, I can take it off to sleep, bathe, and drive. And it does make walking easier and less painful.
